Gardening

I have a number of hobbies but the one I love the best is Gardening. Whether it's a vegetable garden or a flower garden I love them both. My sisters and I share the same interest. Oh, but my brother Paul does too. We probably inherited this from our mother. I remember as a child admiring my mother's vegetable garden and beautiful flowers she grew in our yard. I can still picture in my mind the old house back in Goshen Borneo surrounded by exotic tropical flowering plants like the hibiscus, morning glory, poinsetta, bougainvilla and others. The flowers in the tropics bloom all year round so you can enjoy them every day. No frost or cold weather.

Well, I just have a small vegetable garden in the back of my house in Chauncey. I have some tomato plants, bell peppers, zucchini, cucumber, sweet basil, swiss chard too. I have also put in
mustard seed and "kangkong" seed (asian vegetable). I noticed this morning that they are beginning to sprout so I hope they will grow well. Will add to the above some cayenne peppers.

As for the flowers, I have some perrenials as well as annuals. Day lilies, blackeyed susan, easter lilies (which are just now blooming), glads, iris, hibiscus (still making a come back from last year) make up the perrenials. I've trumpet vines growing under my bedroom window and I don't like them. I'm trying to get rid of them for good. They are so aggresive. They overpower the other plants. I love zinnias but I will have to wait until later this summer before they bloom. Petunia, portulaca, geranium, dahlia, impatiens are some of the annuals that I have.
