Technologies in Libraries
I've witnessed the changes in the use of new technologies in libraries. When I first had a hand on the computers, dumb computers were used. It was non-interative. We still depended much on the Shelflist and Card Catalog to check on authors, titles and subjects for everything in the library then. They were very few computers available. Technology got better and better and no turning back. Alden Library kept up with the changes and welcome new technologies & upgraded the computers. Workshops and classes were offered to staff members which is most helpful. At the turn of the 21st century, kids born in the 80's were well on their way in using computers to help them look up subjects they were interested in or to get information online to do their class assignments. We also have graduated from using reader/printers to print copies from microforms and now have the option to have documents delivered electronically. With the touch of the keyboard it can take you to places you have never been before the world over. OU Libraries have done superbly in promoting the use of new technologies in Alden Library.
Posting about Alden Library
This is the plaque identifying Alden Library. It is named after Dr. Vernon R. Alden, the 15th President of Ohio University. Dr. Alden remains an avid supporter of Ohio University and Alden Library to this day. His fund raising efforts on our behalf have been really effective. Thanks Dr. Alden!

Tis Time to Do Some Exercise
Hey, it's time to exercise and add more to my blog other wise I will totally forget how to. I promise myself to spend some time each day on my blog. The only way to reinforce what I've learned so far. I'm trying and that's positive.

Gardening
I have a number of hobbies but the one I love the best is Gardening. Whether it's a vegetable garden or a flower garden I love them both. My sisters and I share the same interest. Oh, but my brother Paul does too. We probably inherited this from our mother. I remember as a child admiring my mother's vegetable garden and beautiful flowers she grew in our yard. I can still picture in my mind the old house back in Goshen Borneo surrounded by exotic tropical flowering plants like the hibiscus, morning glory, poinsetta, bougainvilla and others. The flowers in the tropics bloom all year round so you can enjoy them every day. No frost or cold weather.
Well, I just have a small vegetable garden in the back of my house in Chauncey. I have some tomato plants, bell peppers, zucchini, cucumber, sweet basil, swiss chard too. I have also put in
mustard seed and "kangkong" seed (asian vegetable). I noticed this morning that they are beginning to sprout so I hope they will grow well. Will add to the above some cayenne peppers.
As for the flowers, I have some perrenials as well as annuals. Day lilies, blackeyed susan, easter lilies (which are just now blooming), glads, iris, hibiscus (still making a come back from last year) make up the perrenials. I've trumpet vines growing under my bedroom window and I don't like them. I'm trying to get rid of them for good. They are so aggresive. They overpower the other plants. I love zinnias but I will have to wait until later this summer before they bloom. Petunia, portulaca, geranium, dahlia, impatiens are some of the annuals that I have.

7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners
Week 1
After going through the 7 1/2 habits of highly successful lifelong learners, I'm still fearful on learning new technologies but I'm determined to overcome this fear. From 2.0, I will take this as my Motto, " I WILL, I CAN, I DO BELIEVE!" that should help me as I tackle each obstacle that lies in my path to learning.
Habit No.1, was easy for me. With encouragement & help from Edie and Nancy, I got on a good start so that makes me feel confident and good inside. If I perserveer I will be able to achieve the goal that I have set for myself :)!
Habit No. 7, teaching or volunteering in front of a whole group of people may not work too well for me. I'm too self-conscious.

Missing home
I've been thinking about my home in Goshen, Sabah, Borneo. I lived there until 1981 when I left to go to school and ended up in Athens, Ohio. There are many things I miss about my home in Malaysia. Obviously I miss my family and friends. But there are many wonderful things about Goshen.
