What joy to watch this bird dance to the beat of the Backstreet Boys. You will not stop laughing seeing him dance. I just love this piece of work. Here's the YouTube
website.

May I have this dance?
Snowball is a medium sulphur crested Eleanora cockatoo and he loves to dance and sing. He loves the Back Street Boys. No one taught Snowball to dance...he just heard this song and suddenly felt like dancing. We're all jealous because he can outdance each one of us...nobody likes a show off! When he's really in the mood, he dances and sings. And at the end of the performance he takes a bow or two or twenty!! Enjoy the show.

Cassi's Creation
I thought the poem and music went together. The music is soothing and pleasant. Cassi did a great job. I like it very much.

Web 2.0: Where will the next generation of web it take libraries?
Web 2.0 has 5 professionals (Librarians) share their expertise, knowledge and views on this subject. All very well said. Overwhelming but needed to drive home the impact of what modern technology has done for libraries and users. Everyone is impacted, whether they be young school children, high school students, college age students, scholars, educators, professors, businesses and/or anyone in communities, they benefit from it all when libraries bring their services readily and conveniently available to patrons. Are we scheduled for Web 3.0 & Web 4.0 next summer? We'll have to find out what is in store for us.

Wikis and OU Libraries Wiki
I went to the OU Libraries Wiki and added my blog to the favorites and I also added a movie to favorite movies. I also used Wikipedia to look up some information on the recent space mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, August 7-21, 2007.
Technorati
Technorati sounded beautiful to my ears. That's crazy, isn't it? It's a brand new word to me. Yes, I created a Technorati account and added my blog in blogosphere. What do I think about being tracked in Technorati? Not too well. It's sort of scary. There's no secret you can keep anymore. It's open to the world. But Technorati has a lot of advantages just like any other branch of technology. You get connected to links upon links, etc., to information you need.
Podcasts
A podcast is an audiorecording posted online, like a short radio show and is often done through RSS technology. A student or anyone can explore on podcasts on any category they are interested in. I would like to recommend to a student to try out podcasting as another source of taping on information he/she is interested in. While making my search on podcasts, I stumbled on Pandora.com and fell in love with it. As I worked on my birthday I treated myself to some great music by Celine Dion and other famous artists. Here is the link to this virtual radio station http://www.pandora.com/

23 2.0 Things completed? It's only the beginning...
What a journey this has been for me. Sure I had some problems grasping things. But I did learn a lot of things and had/have lots fun along the way. Will continue to do so. The word BLOG or BLOGOSPHERE was not in my vocabulary then. It's becoming a common word and is nothing to be scared about. I enjoy having the knowledge to upload pictures from the internet using Flickr or uploading pictures from my own camera to my blog. I did quite a few just for the mere fun of it. Among my favorites are YouTube and Podcast. Under podcast I discovered Pandora.com. It's a new kind of Radio Station and it's free. You can create your own radio station by searching for your favorite artist or your kind of music to listen to. Pandora then plays for you your favorite songs and you can listen to them for as long as you want to. Thanks & Kudos to all who had a part in putting this seminar together. That is, Learning 2.0 for the Library Staff. For without it, I won't have learned how to blog or appreciate or know that there are so much things and resources out there for yourself and for anybody or everybody (students, parents, & others on earth). Everyone of you administrators were very supportive and very helpful. Keep it up. Positively speaking, we should have something similar for 2008!

YouTube
YouTube is fantastic. There is so much technology out there. So much to know. It's mind boggling. I explored a few things on YouTube and found it hard which one to put on my blog. In the end I chose 'Did you know?' from ShiftHappens... I thought the facts are amazing. The accompanying music does wonders to catch one's attention!

Delicious Links
I created a delicious login and added gardening links. I garden a lot back in Sabah. I've continued with that past time here in Athens. I really find enjoyment doing this making my yard look beautiful. I also beautify our CIC service desk by bringing fresh cut flowers from my garden.
OU Libraries Wiki
I went to the OU Libraries Wiki and added my blog to favorite blogs and a book and a movie.

Image Generator

I used an image generator to create a magazine cover to promote tourism in my beloved home
Sabah, Malaysia. It would be the perfect place to spend your next vacation. You'll find sandy beaches, rainforest, jungle animals and the best food in the world. This is Visit Malaysia 2007 year. With the link to the Malaysia Tourism Board.

Who's that little fellow?
He's our dog Lucky, a Long-haired Chihuahua. To him, I'm his Mom and he's my shadow. Whenever we have worship or sing a gospel song, he'll join in always ending up in a high howl. He never misses identifying the "Birthday Song" no matter how soft it may be sung. He enjoys riding and traveling and sitting or lying on his Mama's lap . He loves icecream so once in a while he gets some. Most of all he is a joy and we love him so!
Breakfast with friends at Blueberry Hill Restaurant
Here we are at the Blueberry Hill Restaurant in Niles, Michigan (not too far from South Bend, Indiana). We had a very pleasant visit with our friends the Kijais and the Gabans. Infact we had been friends for a very long time. Dr. Jimmy Kijai and his wife Lucia Kijai are employees of Andrews University. Dr. Kijai is a professor in the Education Department. Dr. Charles Gaban and his wife Connie Gaban are enjoying their retirement. They were administrators and teachers at Sabah Adventist Secondary School where I went to school in Sabah, Malaysia. They moved to the United States in the late 1970's. It is wonderful to have great friends.
Nicole enjoying a cool evening at Lake Michigan
We took a journey/a mini-vacation up to Michigan recently. We visited our Alma Mater Andrews University, a private school of higher learning located in Berrien Springs. Infact thats where Jim and I met. Many people thought we met when he was in the army not so. While there we had the opportunity to visit Lake Michigan in the city of St Joseph which is 12 miles away from Andrews U. My family and I enjoyed Monday evening floricking on the shore of Lake Michigan. With such a hot summer, the beach was crowded with parents and young children and young people as well. There is also an AmTrack Train Station in St. Joseph so one can just buy a ticket and hop on the train to Downtown Chicago. You won't have to worry about driving a hundred miles. You can shop there the whole day or go sight-seeing and return to St. Joseph on the last train in the evening. We almost did that but with a busy day ahead of us we gave up the idea. We might do that the next time we are in th vicinity.

Technologies in Libraries
I've witnessed the changes in the use of new technologies in libraries. When I first had a hand on the computers, dumb computers were used. It was non-interative. We still depended much on the Shelflist and Card Catalog to check on authors, titles and subjects for everything in the library then. They were very few computers available. Technology got better and better and no turning back. Alden Library kept up with the changes and welcome new technologies & upgraded the computers. Workshops and classes were offered to staff members which is most helpful. At the turn of the 21st century, kids born in the 80's were well on their way in using computers to help them look up subjects they were interested in or to get information online to do their class assignments. We also have graduated from using reader/printers to print copies from microforms and now have the option to have documents delivered electronically. With the touch of the keyboard it can take you to places you have never been before the world over. OU Libraries have done superbly in promoting the use of new technologies in Alden Library.
Posting about Alden Library
This is the plaque identifying Alden Library. It is named after Dr. Vernon R. Alden, the 15th President of Ohio University. Dr. Alden remains an avid supporter of Ohio University and Alden Library to this day. His fund raising efforts on our behalf have been really effective. Thanks Dr. Alden!

Gardening
I have a number of hobbies but the one I love the best is Gardening. Whether it's a vegetable garden or a flower garden I love them both. My sisters and I share the same interest. Oh, but my brother Paul does too. We probably inherited this from our mother. I remember as a child admiring my mother's vegetable garden and beautiful flowers she grew in our yard. I can still picture in my mind the old house back in Goshen Borneo surrounded by exotic tropical flowering plants like the hibiscus, morning glory, poinsetta, bougainvilla and others. The flowers in the tropics bloom all year round so you can enjoy them every day. No frost or cold weather.
Well, I just have a small vegetable garden in the back of my house in Chauncey. I have some tomato plants, bell peppers, zucchini, cucumber, sweet basil, swiss chard too. I have also put in
mustard seed and "kangkong" seed (asian vegetable). I noticed this morning that they are beginning to sprout so I hope they will grow well. Will add to the above some cayenne peppers.
As for the flowers, I have some perrenials as well as annuals. Day lilies, blackeyed susan, easter lilies (which are just now blooming), glads, iris, hibiscus (still making a come back from last year) make up the perrenials. I've trumpet vines growing under my bedroom window and I don't like them. I'm trying to get rid of them for good. They are so aggresive. They overpower the other plants. I love zinnias but I will have to wait until later this summer before they bloom. Petunia, portulaca, geranium, dahlia, impatiens are some of the annuals that I have.

7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners
Week 1
After going through the 7 1/2 habits of highly successful lifelong learners, I'm still fearful on learning new technologies but I'm determined to overcome this fear. From 2.0, I will take this as my Motto, " I WILL, I CAN, I DO BELIEVE!" that should help me as I tackle each obstacle that lies in my path to learning.
Habit No.1, was easy for me. With encouragement & help from Edie and Nancy, I got on a good start so that makes me feel confident and good inside. If I perserveer I will be able to achieve the goal that I have set for myself :)!
Habit No. 7, teaching or volunteering in front of a whole group of people may not work too well for me. I'm too self-conscious.

Missing home
I've been thinking about my home in Goshen, Sabah, Borneo. I lived there until 1981 when I left to go to school and ended up in Athens, Ohio. There are many things I miss about my home in Malaysia. Obviously I miss my family and friends. But there are many wonderful things about Goshen.
